HfX is concerned with all things housing. The Centre was conceived as a response to the ever-growing concerns voiced around shelter. Many of the issues identified in the housing sector are universal and commonplace across the broad spectrum of socio-economic systems.

At the same time, these will manifest in ways and to an extent that are conditioned by the specifically local environmental, cultural, political, economic, and social parameters. In Armenia - a formerly Soviet state - the housing stock presents a transitional model of availability of mass-produced units undergoing deteriorating quality.

Considering the vastness and the complexity of issues surrounding housing provision, the Centre carries out its activities integrating empirical knowledge on the multiple areas shaping the housing sector - real estate economics, non-obvious pitfalls in the urban planning and development processes, spatially defined social, cultural and other peculiarities.
