David Schelkshorn
Urban Geographer and Spatial Planner

David Schelkshorn has a background in spatial planning and urban geography, combining technical and social-scientific expertise.
He holds a MSc in Human Geography from the University of Amsterdam and a MSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the Vienna University of Technology. He has worked for 4 years at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (Erasmus University), where he co-coordinated and implemented academic and professional (online) courses in the field of housing and sustainable urban development and was involved in advisory, research as well as capacity building projects.
After IHS, David worked as a Researcher at the Department Management in the Built Environment (MBE) at the Faculty of Architecture & the Built Environment of Delft University of Technology. At TU-Delft he was involved in building a multi-sectoral consortium and developing a (granted) Horizon Europe proposal related to circular economy, urban sustainability transitions, and climate neutrality solutions.
In 2024, David joined the District Planning and Land Use Department of the City of Vienna. In his new role, he is involved in various integrated urban planning projects on different scales and planning stages, with a direct link to the provision of social and affordable housing. David is deeply interested in facilitating and promoting knowledge exchange among urban professionals, and how effective and equitable urban policies can be successfully implemented to drive positive change, sustainability, and livability in cities.
